History of New York Real Estate

The history of New York real estate can actually be traced back to 1524, when a European explorer by the name of Giovanni de Verrazano sailed into the harbor of current day New York City. The spot where the Hudson River empties. Another important person in the history of New York real estate is a man by the name of Peter Minuit. Peter worked as his own real estate agent in the 1620s, which is when he purchased what is currently known as Staten Island and Manhattan. These were both purchased from the local native tribe, the Algonquin. Along with these two areas, Minuit also founded current day Cape Cod. New York real estate first truly "took off" due to the high rate of immigrants and European settlers in the market for homeownership and a better life.

New York has proven to be one of the largest most active real estate markets in the world. The first U.S. census that was done in the twentieth century had New York with a population of about 7.5 million people. One hundred years later New York city alone has almost 8 million people, with the entire state at almost 20 million. <

New York began as a world center for commerce, industry, and communication. The first New York subway company was Interborough Rapid Transit, which began in 1904 and helped New York become the most populated city in the world by 1925. Even during the Great Depression of the 1930s, New York was still able to build some of the world's tallest skyscrapers. The city has been shaped by its massive buildings, bridges, parks and parkways. The state today is as diverse as the immigrants who first stepped foot in this country.

New York real estate is truly popular with retirees and vacationers that are looking for second homes in beautiful atmospheres with gorgeous sceneries and views. With many mountain ranges, rivers, and lakes; New York truly has something to offer everyone. Along with being one of the top financial centers in the world; New York also excels in arts, culture, and all-around diversity. Finding a place is not easy, which makes it important to finding the right New York real estate agent in your quest for the perfect home.

The Hudson Valley is the canyon of the Hudson River with its adjacent communities in New York State. This is generally from northern Westchester County northward to the cities of Albany and Troy. New York is home to the beginning of European settlement in the northeaster U.S. It was also a very strategic battleground in colonial wars.

Hudson Valley can refer to all areas along the Hudson River, including the Bronx and even northeastern New Jersey. The Hudson River was named for Henry Hudson, who was an Englishman sailing for the Netherlands, which was in the time of 1609. Earliest of European settlement occurred around the river, thus inspiring the Hudson River School of Painting.
